ALDERWOOD

Coastal Cove

A newly renovated living room with custom charcoal grey built-in shelving flanking a modern fireplace with a light wood mantle.

Client Goals & Needs:This family wanted a home that felt sophisticated and classic, while still being warm, relaxed and easy to live in. Their busy lifestyles needed the house to work just as well for everyday family life as it did for hosting extended family. Storage was a key part of the brief, along with creating rooms that could grow with the children. The basement was designed to feel like a natural extension of the main floor, giving visiting family a comfortable place to stay without feeling separate from the rest of the home.

Design inspiration

Inspired by the feeling of a relaxed East Coast home, the design balances clean lines with softer, more traditional details. White walls and shaker cabinetry are paired with warm natural oak and charcoal grey millwork, creating a palette that feels calm, classic and lived in rather than overly coastal. Arched shelving, an arched kitchen window and softened cabinetry details bring gentle curves into the home, while subtle touches of gold add just enough warmth. The result is a refined aesthetic that feels connected to the coast, right in the heart of Alderwood.

Lit wall niches above a wood cabinet create a calm modern hallway feature with soft white and wood tones.

The result

The Waterfront team created a home that feels both polished and effortless, with thoughtful storage worked into the architecture throughout. In the kitchen, a quartz-topped island anchors the space, while the white shaker cabinetry and walk-in pantry provide generous storage without overwhelming the room. The bright kitchen naturally balances the charcoal built-in bookcases that frame the fireplace, creating a strong focal point for the space.

Downstairs, a built-in reading nook is tucked beneath the staircase, and lit display niches with floating ledges provide storage and an opportunity to showcase the family’s belongings. These design details connect the basement to the warmth and character of the main floors.

The result is a home that feels elegant, comfortable, and timeless for a busy family and the generations who gather there.
