Design inspiration

The palette is East Coast coastal, warm and calm. White walls and cabinetry, charcoal grey millwork, and natural oak underfoot and up the stairs. Arched shelving, shaker doors, and an arched window over the kitchen sink soften the modern lines, so the house reads as a seaside home that happens to sit on an Alderwood street.

Lit wall niches above a wood cabinet create a calm modern hallway feature with soft white and wood tones.

The result

Storage runs through the whole house, worked into its structure rather than bolted on. A reading nook and lit display niches tuck in around the stairs, a floating oak bench anchors the basement, and wardrobes frame the fireplace in the primary bedroom. The white shaker kitchen and quartz-topped oak island open onto a living room where charcoal built-ins hold the fireplace, and the primary ensuite pairs a freestanding tub with a fluted tile shower. The house finally fits how the family lives, and how it plans to grow.
